As the only NHL regulation-sized rink available to the public, Chaparral Ice functions as the rink-of-choice for a variety of athletic groups. Its most high-profile residents are the American Hockey League’s Texas Stars professional team, NA3HL Austin Ice Bats, the University of Texas club team, and The Texas State University Club Team. Chaparral Ice also hosts a variety of amateur teams, including our Austin Metro Hockey League teams from 5-year-old “6U” up to adult Chaparral Ice recreational leagues.
Stick & Puck is an open “gym-type” session where skaters can work on individual skating and stick-handling skills. All ages welcome. Full equipment is required for all minors and recommended adults (hockey helmet, hockey stick, hockey skates, and hockey gloves required. all equipment provided by the player).

Welcome to our Hockey Town Texas Elite Academy powered by Ice Bats Head Coach Phil Oberlin, Sean Tallaire, Lenard Swain, Chaz Henry, and Peter Biver coaching team. This 16-week elite program is designed to push players out of their comfort zone individually while preparing them for the upcoming AA/AAA travel season. The academy players will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and team cohesion by attending two upper-level tournaments.
This program entails 2 hours of team concepts, on-ice skills, power skating, and positional training per week, 1 hour of off-ice – combination of D1 Fitness and strength training/Gymnastics core Training per week focused on creating an elite level of training for players willing to put in the time to reap the rewards. Players will be evaluated at the beginning and end of each 8-week session with a focus on hockey related technique, form and movement execution. Evaluations will be conducted to ensure athletes set and reach achievable goals in a safe and efficient manner.
Phil Oberlin and his coaching team will focus on skills training while incorporating upper-level drills and SAGs to introduce team concepts and positional play in game-like environments.
